About Lee Prescott
Lee's personality is calm and assured, and his unique British accent is gentle and sonorous. Everyone feels very comfortable to work with him. He loves tea and working in the sun. Lee seems to have a strong tenacity, often kneeling to work, treating art like a religious person, the skin on his knee is worn and scabbed. You have to admire his endurance. In order to keep a clear mind and get fit, Lee drinks tea all day long but no foods (and occasionally beer).
Q: Your solo exhibition will be set to open in Lianpu Teaart Gallery. Could you share the theme and the inspiration behind this exhibition?
Lee: The title of the exhibition refers to cerebral: to affect the brain and lighthouse: a light that searches and identifies objects. As the waves gently caressed the shore, the Cerebral Lighthouse stood tall, its radiance illuminating the vast expanse of thoughts and dreams. Guiding wanderers through the labyrinth of ideas, it whispered secrets of inspiration, casting a mesmerizing glow upon the canvas of the mind.
The theme is about my quest to discover inspiration, whether it’s my environment, what I find in books or magazines or even music. I’m always affected by the things around me. I want to show the viewer the result of this inspiration.
Q: Your works encompass both collage and painting forms, often displaying peculiar diverse, and even absurd characteristics. Could you share some stories behind your creative process in this style?
Lee: I love imagery. I collect images, from magazines and design books. I have folders full of images. These folders full of images become my collages. I never usually know what I am going to create. I just take the images and have fun combining them. When a combination works, I know immediately. I love the whole process of collage making. I especially love the attention to detail and the patience needed. Although I am not a patient person, I find I have unlimited patience with collage making. With the paintings, I am drawn to a less absurd style and more towards a structured, architectural style. I guess this mirrors both sides of my personality.
Q: What emotions and thoughts do you hope the audience will experience through your exhibition? What are your expectations for the exhibition attendees?
Lee: I hope the audience will experience excitement, intrigue and a sense of curiosity. Three of my collages will require the viewer to first, look at the piece as a whole, and then, look deeper into the smaller pieces that make the collage. I expect the attendees to go with their gut reaction to the pieces. I would like them to interpret them however they wish. All the pieces will mean something different to each person.
